Feelings ... Nothing More

14:37

Payday! I went shopping today. Bought a few things, or more, that caught my fancy and wasn't broke when I came home again. It was a nice feeling.

So, yeah, I got a job. I'm working at a horse jumping facility just outside of St. Albert. It's only a half hour drive along the back roads. Closer than the track. It pays about the same as one of the starting wages at the track, and it's only 5 days a week. It's the five days a week part that really makes me hum to myself. I'll also be making time and a half when I work on holidays. You can't get a better contract than this at the track. And I don't have to put up with the jerks that drive in the city! The highway idiots are more than enough, thanks.

I've been there a week and I haven't formed any bonds with any of the horses, but then I'm not sure I will. We aren't assigned to anybody in specific. Just two of us, working away in a 26 horse barn. Luckily, showing season is coming and the barn should rarely be full. It's a very long day when the barn is full.

By the by, yesterday was White Day. I think it's a fantastic tradition and I plan on participating in it from now on. If you don't know what it is, it's a follow-up holiday to Valentine's Day. In Japan, girls give boys chocolates on V-day. On White Day, the boy gives a present of equal value back. Now in some cases, you can't afford to buy or make gifts for every girl who gives you chocolate, so the tradition is that if the boy likes you back, he gives you something. Still a nice tradition. I'm late, but I'll have to find something nice for Jade.

I need a haircut. My ends are uneven and getting frizzy. It just looks bad.

Things have been a bit smoother here since my last report. the silence only lasted about three days ... maybe four. then one afternoon she suddenly asked what I thought we should have for supper. She talked to me first. I win. (Kidding.) Anyway, things have been fine and she seems to be trying harder not to step on my toes. One morning when I was getting things ready for work, she came up and asked me how she could help while I was working. I stared blankly at her for a bit. She said she was bored during the day and wanted to know if I minded if she came up and cleaned upstairs. So we settled on her cleaning the living room and dining area. I don't want her in any of the private rooms. then she asked my permission to use the stereo and the TV for while she was upstairs. It's too quiet up here and it bugs her. She says it's like a tomb. I showed her how to work everything and she's happy. I wish that woman would get a hobby.

So ... St. Patrick's Day is coming up. Found something that I thought described Paddy's day perfectly. "St. Patrick's Day is all about celebrating tradition and taking pride in your family's roots -- whether they're Irish or not." So there you go. It's a holiday that everybody can enjoy. Even if you don't drink the green beer. ;)

Lynne is in the hospital as she has just had surgery. I'll be going to visit her tomorrow. I tried to find her a Poogle to cuddle up with but you can't find them anymore. So I bought her something else. It better not end up in her daughter's possession. (But it's unbreakable, just in case) Hopefully, the Peeps don't infiltrate this year, but there's always "gaps" in security ... they could be in disguise.

Thanks to work, I've been losing weight a bit faster. On the other hand, thanks to work, my legs have become swollen and itchy and red. I think that Jade is right ... I'm allergic to hay. Makes sense, actually. I'm allergic to grass too. Well, it's not unbearable, really, just keeps my jeans snug fitting. Of course, it's uncomfortable when taking a shower and while putting said jeans on or removing them. I'm sure I'll survive though. It's only five days a week, so I have two days for things to ease off a bit (I hope). If it becomes a problem, I'll stop working with the hay for a bit and see if that helps. For all I know, it's the shavings! Pretty sure it's the hay, though. the rash is on my arms a bit too, but not as badly as my legs. Funny ... I finally find the work I want to do for the rest of my life ... and I'm allergic to it. LOL!

So, yeah, other than that things are going okay right now. I'm a bit more on the chipper side because I'm getting out of the house and away from the unstable person who lives below me. My appetite is staying normal too. I'm not eating us out of house and home because I'm always hungry. this could change, it's only a week, but I'm not sure it will. I think the increased appetite wasn't a response to the energy required so much as a response to the stress I was going through. Working at this farm is NOT stressful. It's a pity that I'm not actually taking care of the horses (grooming) but that's okay too. Cleaning up after 26 horses is quite enough work, thanks. I'm feeling the urge to look at the one with splints though ... I don't understand why they aren't doing anything with that horses legs. they should be sweating them with furacin. Preferably with DMSO mixed in, for good measure.

Damn, I'm gonna miss Pepper. And Pickles. Ah, heck, I'm going to miss all of them. I made winners out of them all. If I thought that Dragonlady would take me back under a part time contract like what I'm working now, I'd jump for it, but I sincerely doubt that she would. She loves me, but I don't think she loves me that much.

I've been looking into building barns and getting my stuff together for my own business. There's a horse fair of sorts in September where I'll be able to go and check out many building companies. That's a long ways off, but clearing the land will also take a very long time, so we'll see. I still have to get things in gear and talk to somebody about getting a new business grant. Even if all they'll give me is $10, 000 (which somebody said was the limit) that'll be $10, 000 that I don't have to pay back! I'll also have to talk to other boarding facilities to see how they manage things. I'm assuming that the monthly fee covers the food/hay and boarding. I'm thinking that special care will be extra and the owners are to cover the cost of any special items like lotions, etc. I'm really looking forward to this. Eventually though, I think we'll outgrow this place and will sell it again for something larger, but that's many, many years down the road. I don't want to think about moving any time soon. It's going to be something to consider though. It's a tight squeeze for our items now ... what the dickens will I do if I get pregnant? No space.

Anyway, I have to go and get some stuff done.

If you get a chance to read this, Lynne, get better soon, but take this opportunity to catch up on some overdue sleep!!

Sweet Dreams!
